Overview

With Malay, Indian and Chinese influences on nation's cuisine, it's no wonder that Malaysian food is a lip-smackingly complex beast.

We'll meet in the old district of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, some of the last remaining parts of the city not to have been developed into glassy high rises.

Don't expect other foreigners. Weave among the narrow streets sampling 14+ tastings carefully curated by a KL chef for their taste and culinary history.

The flavours change across the year, but highlights include the fragrant bowls of laksa, hand stretched rotis, nasi lemak with piquant sambal and herbal chicken rendang, charcoal-grilled mackerel and soothing iced cendol with custard-like durian. We'll end with a fine view of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers.

I'm sure you have a lot of your plate, but here's some food for thought. While it's possible to attempt such a culinary marathon yourself, you'd be one sandwich short of a Malaysian picnic not to join me on our moveable food feast.

What To Expect

Chow Kit Market
Malaysian cuisine is a complex beast. Thankfully, you can hit the street food tour scene running if your join our daily 4-hour chef-led food feast. Limited to 8 guests, you’ll be led away from the tourist crowds to some of Kuala Lumpur’s best joints known only to locals.

Along the way, you’ll dive into one of the city’s best wet markets to discover the produce and ingredients which go into Malaysian dishes before tasting between 13 and 14 different dishes and snacks. As well as fine examples of classics like rendang, nasi lemak and flame-grilled chicken skewers with rich peanut satay, your chef guide will steer you towards some of KL’s lesser known delights like cooling cendol durian, banana-leaf grilled mackerel with sambal and nasi kerabu, a blue rice dish spiked with blue pea flowers.

If you’re looking to truly get to the heart of the city’s cuisine, there’s no better way than on this chef-led culinary adventure. Escape the tourist traps and get your taste buds ready for the ride. You won’t regret it.

Fantastic food tour with Siddoz!
Olivia S, 18-09-2022
We had a wonderful tour on this tour with Siddoz! He was a fantastic and knowledgeable host. The tour has clearly been well-designed with a little walking between stops to help digest the plentiful food. Overall, we ate about 14 different items and Siddoz was able to explain the cultural significance of each item. The pace was great and was a fantastic evening in KL.

Amazing food tour with Siddoz!

We enjoyed the food tour so much! Mr Siddoz was a great guide, full of knowledge about the food, city, culture, and more. He took us around two local foodie areas and we tried at least 15 types of food and drinks - we ate so much. We also got to try and make roti (it's really hard) and see pulled coffee being made. Siddoz was so friendly and he was a great bridge between us and the local people.
Kuala Lumpur It is a city that blends Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures perfectly. All the food I eat was delicious.

It was such a great introduction to the diversity of food in Malaysia, and we're really glad to have joined the tour.
