What To Expect

Kubah National Park
Frogs come out at night when it is cooler.  We get up close and personal with them in this fascinating night walk in the tropical rainforest. Search for Bornean frogs that comes in all colors and sizes, well over 60 spices of them in Kubah National Park.

Kubah National Park has some of the most impressive rainforest in Sarawak, with clear waterfalls and humid jungles, just what frogs love. A natural frog pond and the jungle streams are great place to hunt for frogs. One of the smallest frog in the world is also here so you will need sharp eyes to catch them.

We venture out into the night jungle to experience the darkness and the sound of the rainforest and explore its unique creatures at night. Other potential sighting includes spot freshwater crabs, shrimps and forest catfishes, as well as abundance of pitches plant.

Frogs frogs everywhere!
Anne R, 31-08-2022
I came at a time when tourism was still slow, so booked this tour for two even though I was alone. It was entirely worth it!

The staff were really friendly and helpful in arranging the tour and making sure I had all the information I needed ahead of time.

The guide who took me to the park was very concerned that I was comfortable in the car and shared a lot of information about places I had already been that the other guides didn’t tell me.

Kubah Park at night was amazing! The sounds of the crickets, cicadas and frogs was really neat to hear. We also heard a civet cat. Hafiz, the guide in the park was really knowledgeable about all the different types of frogs. He could also spot them at 4-5 meters away, which was helpful because sometimes even when he was pointing right at the frog it took me a few seconds to see it. Without him I probably would have concluded that there were no frogs in the park, but instead we saw 10-12 different types. I’m sure we saw more than 100 frogs total during the tour even a Borneo horned frog. At several point we would be focused on one frog on one leaf only to then realize there were actually 4-5 frogs in the same small area!

Most of the frogs were pretty willing to be photographed up close, allowing me to get shots on my phone that look like they could have come from National Geographic.

The walk was along a paved road and a wooden walkway around a frog pond. I had been worried about about mosquitos but they weren’t a problem, and the night air was actually cool and refreshing.

For a tour I almost didn’t take, I’m really glad I went!
Horned Frog, Pitt Viper and Dominic was amazing

When on the Night Tour with low expectations as the previous night it had rained thus a lot of the wildlife had been seen previous to our tour however we saw over 20 plus frogs, saw a Pitt Viper and a Green Tree Snake.
We also saw a Horned Frog which our guide Dominic said he would be happy with and said that they were rare too.
Our guide Dominic was amazing too as he could spot anything by the glare of the animals eyes, he also talked about how much he cared about the Jungle which was inspiring.
Something different and extremely interesting

This tour is well worth doing. It takes you our into the national park with an amazing guide with the sharpest eyes ever. you spot animals - frogs along the way to a pond and walk around a pond boardwalk. It is informative, fun, and beautiful.
Company is not very responsive

Booked and paid for the trip but did not receive any confirmation or details from the company for a few weeks until I wrote them. I followed up by asking Estee for some advice about the trip but did not receive any reply from her. The Frog Tour is basically visiting the National Frog Pond in Kubah National Park, and I would think they over-charged for a simple activity like this. One of the torchlights that they provided was also running low on battery. The ranger who served as guide could not speak English well enough to provide useful and educational information during the trip. But he is a friendly and patient guide, and we did get to see many frogs in the area (but they are restricted to only 3-4 species), so overall it is still a nice experience. But overall, I do not think it is value for money and there are a lot of room for improvement.
